Prices collected 27 August 2026 from Jade Leaf’s own listings and its storefronts on Walmart and Target.
Jade Leaf is the biggest value matcha brand in the US, and it is genuinely good value. But its shelf has two things that catch people out.
What to buy
| If you want | Buy | Price | Per bowl |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lattes and baking, in volume | Culinary, 1 lb | $69.99 | $0.40 |
| Drinking matcha, in volume | Ceremonial Barista, 1 lb | $139.99 | $0.62 |
| To try it first | Ceremonial Barista, 30 g tin | $22.99 | $1.53 |
| The nicest one | Ceremonial Teahouse, 30 g tin | $26.99 | $1.80 |
A bowl is 2 g.
Trap one: buy it on Walmart, not on Jade Leaf’s own site. Jade Leaf sells through its own Walmart storefront at 13–40% less.
| Same product | jadeleafmatcha.com | Walmart |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional Starter Set | $24.99 | $14.99 |
| Ceremonial Barista, 100 g tin | $49.99 | $39.99 |
| Ceremonial Teahouse, 100 g pouch | $59.99 | $49.95 |
| Ceremonial Barista, 1 lb | $139.99 | $119.99 |
| Ceremonial Barista, 30 g tin | $22.99 | $19.99 |
Same brand, same product, same seller. Just a different checkout.
Trap two: ten of Jade Leaf’s twenty-nine matcha products are sweetened drink mixes, not matcha. More on that below.
Six matchas and ten drink mixes
Jade Leaf’s shelf splits like this:
| What it is | How many |
|---|---|
| Pure matcha powder | 6 |
| Sweetened café-style mixes | 10 |
| Tools, drinkware, sets, hojicha | 13 |
The six real matchas are Ceremonial Teahouse, Ceremonial Barista, Artisanal Ceremonial Barista, Ceremonial Stick Packs, Culinary and Ingredient.
The ten mixes — Original, Vanilla, Strawberry, Sugar-Free, Pumpkin Spice, Lemonade, two Collagen blends and a Latte Concentrate — are mostly sugar. A 5.3 oz bag makes fifteen servings at 10 g each, and only about a gram of each serving is tea.
Are the mixes bad value? Not necessarily, but know what you are comparing. Work out what you pay for the tea itself and the mixes land between the cheap and the mid-range powders:
| For about this much tea | The mix costs | Plain powder costs |
|---|---|---|
| 15 g | $0.73 a gram | $0.37–$0.90 |
| 50 g | $0.66 a gram | $0.38–$0.62 |
| 100 g | $0.53 a gram | $0.26–$0.60 |
If you want a sweet latte and you like the flavour, fine. If you want matcha, buy the powder and add your own milk and sugar — it is cheaper at every size.
Buying the big bag is the biggest saving here
Bigger than choosing a cheaper grade:
| 30 g | 100 g | 1 lb | Saving | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ceremonial Teahouse (tin) | $0.90/g | $0.60/g | $0.42/g | −53% |
| Ceremonial Barista | $0.77/g | $0.50/g | $0.31/g | −60% |
| Culinary | $0.37/g | $0.26/g | $0.20/g | −46% |
A pound of Ceremonial Barista costs less per gram than a 30 g tin of Culinary. If you drink matcha regularly, the size matters more than the grade.
The catch is freshness — a pound is 227 bowls. Buy it if you will finish it in a few months.
What Jade Leaf tells you that most cheap matcha doesn’t
Jade Leaf publishes more than you would expect at this price:
- Matcha grade on 22 of its 31 listings
- Caffeine, usually as a milligram range, on 22
- Where it came from on 19
- The actual cultivars on 8
Naming cultivars is rare at any price. Ceremonial Teahouse lists Okumidori, Kanayamidori, Sayamakaori, Samidori and Yabukita; Barista lists Okumidori, Komakage and Yabukita.
That is more disclosure than plenty of shops charging three times as much.
Where it sits against other shops
Comparing like sizes — 25 to 60 g tins:
| Shop | Per gram |
|---|---|
| Encha | $0.41 |
| Naoki | $0.66 |
| Jade Leaf | $0.77 |
| Ujido | $0.99 |
| Kettl | $1.13 |
| Rishi | $1.27 |
Jade Leaf sits in the value half, and well below the specialist shops. The twelve-brand version of this table — entry and top tins at the same 20–40 g size — is in our matcha brands comparison.
Has the price gone up?
Yes, but modestly, and mostly on the big bags.
Ceremonial Teahouse in a 30 g tin was $19.95 in 2020 and is $22.99 now. The 1 lb bag went from $99.95 to $139.99 over the same period — the bulk sizes took most of the increase.
Culinary has barely moved: $9.95 for 30 g in 2019, $10.99 today.
FAQ
Is Jade Leaf matcha good?
It is the strongest value brand in the US market, and it publishes more about its tea than most shops at this price. It is not competing with $2-a-gram specialist matcha, and it does not claim to be.
Which Jade Leaf matcha should I buy?
Culinary for lattes and baking, Ceremonial Barista for drinking, Ceremonial Teahouse if you want the best they make. Buy the biggest size you will finish.
Is Jade Leaf cheaper on Amazon or Walmart?
On Walmart, yes — 13% to 40% cheaper than Jade Leaf’s own site, sold by Jade Leaf itself.
What is the difference between Teahouse and Barista?
Teahouse is their drinking grade; Barista is blended to stand up to milk. Barista is cheaper and works fine plain.
Are the latte mixes real matcha?
They contain matcha, but they are mostly sugar — roughly a gram of tea in a 10 g serving. Buy the powder if you want matcha.
Is Jade Leaf ceremonial grade?
Three of its products use the word. “Ceremonial” is not a regulated term — read the cultivar and origin rows instead.
Twenty-nine matcha products plus tools and sets, read 27 August 2026, with archived prices back to 2019. Per-bowl figures use 2 g.
