The Matcha Index is an independent price-and-data site about Japanese tea sold in the West, run by Fuki Narita from Japan.
The premise is simple: matcha marketing runs on adjectives, so this site runs on numbers. We collect every listing from the public store feeds of major matcha brands — prices, net weights, cultivars, harvest claims — and publish what the data says: price per gram, price per cup, and which label claims actually predict quality. Where possible we add what verified buyers report in their own words.
How the site works
- Every price has a date. Prices change; every figure on this site is a snapshot with a collection date attached.
- Full store coverage, not a selection. When we cover a brand, we pull every product in its store feed, so the statistics can’t cherry-pick.
- The data is public. The datasets behind our articles are published on the Data page so anyone can check the math.
- Independence. No brand pays for placement or reviews. The site earns affiliate commissions on some outbound links, which never affect what the data says. See our affiliate disclosure.
